As Catholics we begin the season of Lent this Wednesday February 14
th. Yes, I know it is Valentine’s Day. I am sure that many of you have looked ahead and Easter falls on April 1
st; affectionately known as April Fool’s Day, but don’t be fooled, we believe Jesus rose from the dead! There will be three opportunities for receiving ashes on Wednesday: 9:00 A.M. Mass, 3:00 Liturgy of the Word, and 7:30 P.M. Mass. I am hoping one of those times fits into your schedule and we can begin our communal season of fasting, prayer and charity on the journey of spiritual growth and formation.
During the season of Lent, we are asked to support the works of Charity, Ministry, and Education as we pool our resources for the good works of the Diocese of Worcester through the
Annual Partners in Charity Appeal. Our goal is the same as these past two years, $43,200.00. We have worked together as a parish community to meet our responsibility in these efforts and I am hoping more of us will share in assisting in meeting our goal.
Bishop McManus is seeking our wisdom and input regarding a possible Capital Campaign for the Diocese. I am encouraging everyone to take part in the survey so that we are heard regarding our thoughts on this matter. To complete the survey, go to
www.worcesterdiocese.org. On the Home Page in the first column on the left you will see an icon “Capital Campaign Study.” It is wise to read the Bishop’s letter regarding the reason for the Capital Campaign before
taking the survey.
As you know the home of two Hukanovic families was lost in a tragic fire last Saturday. Many efforts are being made to assist them with their immediate and long-range needs to get back on their feet. The Hopedale Fire Department has sent up a “go-fund-me” site for those who would like to assist in that way. The schools are collecting gift cards to take care of immediate needs. In the meantime, we are planning on hosting a concert in our church for these families. As the details unfold we will keep you posted. In the meantime, I ask you to please keep the family members in your prayers, and as a Catholic Community we will do the same.
