As Catholics our lives center on the Eucharist, “communion” our common-union with each other. When we are in communion with each other no one lives in isolation but is surrounded by people who “have your back” and walk together in the faith journey of life. By deepening your involvement and participation in our community you will have the opportunity to meet others.
Our Community Outreach Team holds events like “Fill-a-Ford” and Harvest Fest to bring us together to share a meal and meet one another in an informal basis. Harvest Fest is not a fundraiser, it is a “fun-raiser.” I encourage all of us to come together for a wonderful meal and entertainment (activities for the younger kids) and to meet and greet other members of the community.
Another great way to enhance our Catholic Community is involvement in Ministry. This gives individuals an opportunity to meet others with like interests and deepen personal relationships. The laughter that comes from the sacristy before Mass is an example of people who have come to know each other over the years and share a comradery that builds throughout the years. Interest in each other’s lives becomes the heart of who we are on this journey of faith.
Many of the “communities” we are part of are “time-sensitive”; they last for a specific amount of time: sports teams, school activities, book clubs, and the like. But the parish community is from womb to tomb; baptism to funeral. The faith journey is life-long and worth putting effort and energy into that has benefits that are out of this world!
I am inviting you into communion and am hoping you’ll make the effort to be in common-union here at Sacred Heart.
