“Where there is no vision, the people perish” (Proverbs29:18) These words from the wisdom literature found in the Old Testament are why we have a vision statement for our parish: “Enabling all to grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ!” To make a vision a reality we need to listen to the urgings and the direction of the Holy Spirit. I have asked the members of our Vision Team to share with you why they are eager to serve on the vision team. Their hopes and dreams are found on page two. Please take the time to listen to their stories and pray for us as Diahne Goodwin from Divine Renovation coaches us over the next two months.
God has a will for our parish, and it is important that we listen to the movement and the urgings of the Holy Spirit. The Vision Team is entrusted to listen together with me to God’s will for us as a community of faith seeking to move through the guidance of the Spirit.
When I speak about a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, I am talking about a living relationship with Jesus. One that causes us to desire to make Him present in the world today. In that relationship we want to have ears that hear and eyes that see the presence of Christ not only in our community as we gather to keep Holy the Sabbath, but in everyone with whom we come in contact.
With a living relationship with Jesus Christ, we want to be disciples who live out Mathew 25. We want to feed the hungry, shelter the homeless, welcome the strangers, build bridges and takedown walls.
Imagine if Christians everywhere were all on the same page with the Word of Jesus and were working together to make the world the place God wants it to be? I think of the bumper sticker: Know Jesus-Know Peace; No Jesus-No Peace.
We cannot change the culture of our world. However, we have the power over the culture of our Catholic Community of Sacred Heart. This is our portion of the Kingdom of God, and we can make a difference. May we all have a desire to have a living relationship with Jesus Christ and join together as his presence in the community today.
