Got your attention didn’t I? I know Mother’s Day is not until May 10th, however it has been our tradition in our Catholic Community of Sacred Heart to give all of our mothers a special blessing at the beginning of Mother’s Day WEEK! So, here’s the plan so you can prepare.
At the end of the live stream Mass on May 10th (Mother’s Day) I will pray the blessing for Mothers and then we will have a drive through blessing for mothers from 10:00-11:00 A.M. AND we will have a gift for each of the mothers on that day. However, remember, it is Mother’s Day week, so don’t think that our parish gift will get any of you off the hook. This is advanced notice to start thinking about how you are going to honor your mother throughout the week of May 10th!
I realize what a challenge it is for the sons and daughters who have parents in assisted living situations. Not being able to visit is disheartening for you and for them. Several spouses and children have visited their family members daily before this pandemic. Telephone calls help a great deal, but just aren’t the same. It is important to stay in touch with each other and I am sure we are all feeling it. I know not being able to visit parishioners in the hospital and Countryside each week leaves an empty space in my heart. Celebrating Mass in an empty church is sad, to say the least. How I long for us to be gathered as the Community of Sacred Heart once again.
The positives in all this is that we are trying to make sure that all of us are healthy and safe. It is because we love each other so much we want to keep our distance and prevent the spread of Covid-19. So please take the time to show your appreciation not just to our mothers, but to each other. Take the time to write down all the many blessings you have; a roof over your head, food to nourish, technology to keep in touch, choice of entertainment, and of course: toilet paper!
