Dear Fellow Parishioners, News from Les Cayes, our sister parish, St. Gerard’s and Haiti continue to trickle in. The news is not encouraging. For Haiti it seems there is one step forward and four steps backwards. I thank the many who have been in touch with me, promising prayers and a willingness to assist when we hold a collection to assist our brothers and sisters in Haiti. We have posted photos and information regarding St. Gerard’s on our Facebook page, website and in the briefs. As more information comes it will be posted. Inside the bulletin is the prayer I use daily for Haiti. Join me!
Each summer through the Society for the Propagation of the Faith we are asked to welcome a religious order working among the poor in mission countries. That did not happen last year due to Covid-19 restrictions. This year due to travel restrictions we are not allowed to have anyone join us from foreign missions. However, rather than cancelling this appeal again we will be having a virtual visit and take up a collection for the Sisters of Christ the Light from India. We will have a rectangular basket for the donations for the Sisters. Some may not have additional funds for this appeal, so we will have the basket available next weekend also. Checks need to be made out to our parish and designate “Mission appeal.”
I wish to thank all those who came forward to be nominated to our Pastoral Planning Team. Our new members will be Bob Maconochie for a three-year term and our two youth representatives for one year are Aaron Buckley and Riley Goyette. Special thanks to Greg Manning for his three years of service on the team and Anna Dykhoff, Gabe Bean, and Jake Russell our youth representatives.
