As I read about Pope Francis’ journey to Asia and Oceania, I am amazed at how he is vigorous and energetic in his willingness to travel and bring the “good news” to all parts of the world at 87 years old. He has difficulty walking and has no problem being seen wheeled in his chair. What a wonderful attitude toward aging.
As I age publicly before you, I get concerned as my memory slips at times as I lead in worship and preach God’s Word. My eyes are slowly forming cataracts, but I am told they are not ripe yet, so wearing my readers when I need them helps. However, sometimes I forget to put my glasses out, or forget where I last put them. Of course I have readers in my car, on my desk, at the dining room table, the kitchen counter, my prayer corner, next to my bed, and yes, in the bathroom. I am hoping I have the same attitude toward aging as Pope Francis however…
I am going on a cruise of the Greek Islands beginning September 16 and returning September 30th. Unlike Pope Francis, I have to pack my own clothes, carry my suitcase, get through security, no direct flights, and at the same time take care of Sr. Terry with her luggage and wheelchair. I am not jealous of Pope Francis, nor complaining, but being real with the circumstances we all face in life. Attitude has a great deal to do with the ways we journey through life. May we be able to put on the mind of Christ!
I am sure you will give a wonderful Sacred Heart welcome to Fr. Jim Lyons as he gives me the opportunity to be away at this time.
Alpha has begun and it is wonderful to see the parking lot filled with cars of the attendees and the hall filled with those on the Alpha journey. I am asking if you can help us out. We need people to pray for the team and our guests on Monday evenings. You can do this from the comfort of your home. We gather from 6:00-8:15 P.M. each Monday. In the center isle of the church there will be prayer sheets to pray for us all. Please take one and pray for all who gather that we will deepen our relationship with Jesus Christ. Your prayer support is greatly appreciated.
