Last weekend on the Feast of Christ the King of the Universe I introduced the “Advent Conspiracy.” We are planting the seeds to enter more fully in the days, weeks, months and years ahead the ways Christmas, and we as Christians can change the world.
This week I am asking us all to focus on what it means to “Worship Fully.” I don’t want anyone to be overwhelmed by the term but take one step at a time and look honestly at the desires of your heart at what it is you worship. We are formed by what we worship, and what we worship is where we spend our time and energy on what matters most to us. Of course, I want us all to say we worship Jesus during Advent and anticipate during this season in preparation of celebrating his birth anew in our hearts. But realistically, is this really true?
How can we take small steps in our routine to make our worship fully focused on Jesus? We all go from place to place in our cars, shopping, appointments, visiting family members, and more. How about each time we get into the car we pray a prayer for a safe journey and for all the people on the road that we are all safe? When decorating, start with a prayer asking that those who see these lights and decorations may focus on the birth of Christ. When baking— pray that those who receive these baked goods know of the love we have for them in sharing these goodies. When attending the Winter Stroll, can we look attentively for the real meaning of Christmas in the displays along the way? By taking small steps to bring Christ into each of the events you attend during this week and who knows, maybe it can become a wonderful refocus of the Advent journey.
I am willing to pass on the ways you bring worship to this Advent Season, please pass them on to me or through the parish Facebook page so we can all benefit from the shared community wisdom!
Together let’s “Worship Fully!”
