Dear Fellow Parishioners, As we approach Thanksgiving, the earworm in my head is that wonderful song of Thanksgiving, “Let all things now living a song of thanksgiving to God our creator triumphantly raise!” I have so very many reasons to be thankful and being a part of The Catholic Community of Sacred Heart is at the top of the list!
Your willingness to respond to the ministerial needs, assist in getting things done, and support the work of our community is tremendous. Let me explain just a few of the recent happenings.
I don’t think anyone realizes the challenge our Buildings and Grounds Team has had in getting bids for our failed heating system. Not only are we required to obtain three bids for major projects, but with equipment and parts shortages we could only deal with companies that had two propane boilers in stock and not on a ship somewhere headed to the U.S. That certainly narrowed down our choices. However, the team worked together to obtain the information we needed in order to secure a signed contract and work has begun on getting us up and running with heat.
We put out a call for items needed for Haitian refugees, and the response has been incredible. Several people came and worked four hours on Saturday to box everything that was donated. They ran out of boxes! More boxes are coming, and the items collected will be picked up this week. Thank you all so very much!
In a past letter, I explained all the emergency repairs that we face in the hall, parish house and the church, including replacement of the boilers. Several people have given large donations toward these projects. As one couple wrote, we need to take care of “our house”. Wow, such generosity.
It is Thanksgiving week, and I am so thankful for being a part of The Catholic Community of Sacred Heart! We are on this journey together. Thank you!
