We are in the midst of our annual Stewardship Renewal. For some who are active in sharing their time, talent, and treasure this is a renewal; for others it will be the first time in making a commitment to our parish community. Still, for others who were active in ministry in prior times it is an invitation to recommit their service to the community at large. The more who come forward to serve in ministry makes it easier for all those involved to share the ministry load.
I want to thank Leanne and Bernie Audette who shared their stewardship journey with the 4:00 community and Nate Allen who shared his story with the 9:30 community. I only wish we had recorded Leanne and Bernie, so that those who were not present at the 4:00 P.M. Mass could hear their story. You can click the Mass link to hear Nate’s Stewardship example and encouragement.
I know there are many of you who participate in ministry; many up front and many who are involved behind the scenes making sure we are a vibrant parish. I would love to give everyone a chance to share their involvement with the community. There are so many blessings we receive when we share our gifts, skills, and talents with each other. As we heard Jesus’ words in Mark’s Gospel this week, “Whoever wishes to be great among you will be your servant; whoever wishes to be first among you will be the slave of all.” (Mark 10:44) We are called to be “slaves” of Christ and servants of our faith community and beyond, making Christ present in the world.
Stewardship requires a change in perspective. This change in perspective will bring joy through service to others. Pray daily to become less self-centered and to become more God-centered. May we all share fully of the gifts, skills, and talents we have received as we strive to be the community of faith God calls us to be.
I pray that we as individuals and as a parish community can grow in following Jesus and become more centered on God and others.
