Dear Fellow Parishioners, “Whenever you do this remember me!” “Do you believe Jesus did not abandon us, but sent to Holy Spirit to help us remember everything he taught?” To remember means to put together, the opposite of remember is dismember, to take apart. Memory is so important, and many of us have created ways of helping us to remember. I always write things down and put things on my calendar. Part of my difficulty is that I sometimes forget to look at my calendar, thinking that I remember everything I have agreed to do. That hasn’t always worked. The same is true for our spiritual lives. We sometimes forget the basics. That’s why we gather together each weekend for Mass. We gather in order to refresh our memories of how we are to live and be faithful Disciples of Jesus Christ. Our homily series are designed to assist us in making sure that the Word of God is alive and real in our day to day living. Beginning the weekend of August 28-29th, we will begin a 12- week homily series focused on the 10 Commandments and how they apply to our lives in 2021. Some of you may remember reading The Ten Commandments: Laws of the Heart by Sr. Joan Chittister. If you still have your copy take it out and refresh your memory as we focus on how we are to live the commandments in our time. The book is available online for those who would like to go deeper in understanding the ways we are to live our Judeo-Christian spirituality today.
Speaking of fading memories; Pam and I made arrangements to meet Eric Miller at 11:15 last Sunday to discuss a new worship opportunity. Neither of us remembered and Eric was forgotten. We did meet him on Monday. Once a month from 3:30 to 3:55 Eric will be singing Gregorian Chant before the 4:00 P.M. Mass to add a prayerful tone as we gather. He will be with us on Saturday August 28th. We will keep you informed of future dates. As we age, our memories seem to fade. We all need reminders. May we encourage each other along the way; and be patient when our slip is showing!
