Dear Fellow Parishioners, One of the positive aspects of all the closers and isolation of Covid-19 was the discovery for many of us of the power of technology. I am especially thinking of Zoom. It enabled us to somehow connect with others and may our quarantining and isolations evaporate and allow us to gather during a pandemic. I think of all the times when I was called to anoint someone in the Intensive Care Unit at Milford Hospital, just the patient and me present. How important the sacrament of healing take place with loved ones, family members and friends present, surrounding a loved one with their prayers before surgery, and especially saying goodbye to someone in their last hours of life. Our parish men’s group, “Men of Hope” have used this technology over these past four years to gather in prayer and deepening our faith on Saturdays using Zoom. Each of us watch a 30-minute film on various faith topics presented by Paradisus Dei and then on Saturday mornings we pray and discuss how we are deepening our relationship with Jesus Christ and our faith community as Men of Hope. Ernie Chaplin has been the lead agent in gathering us together over these past four years. As many of you know Ernie has Esophageal Cancer and is scheduled to have the cancer removed on Wednesday January 10th. We are planning on joining him in prayer and anointing him by Zoom on Tuesday evening (January 9th) from 7:00-7:30 P.M. Fr. Greg Hoppough will be present to anoint Ernie as the rest of us join in prayer. Ernie has to quarantine from now to surgery, so through the wonder of technology we can still send him off with our prayers and support through Zoom. If you care to join us here is the link (https://us02web.zoom.us/j/84578149322?pwd=akZmRURtcmdLbkczL2RiMWtwMHZvZz09) for our gathering! The link will also be on our website. May this be the first of many opportunities to support each other in prayer when we have to isolate ourselves before surgery. A Happy and Healthy New Year Ernie and to all! Fr. Bill
