Dear Fellow Parishioners, Your generosity to the many requests for assistance these past few months and especially weeks is so gratefully appreciated. I have no control over the many requests that I bring to your attention. The Diocesan Capital Campaign Legacy of Hope came on the heels of Partner’s in Charity. The needs of the Sisters of the Light of Christ is assigned to us by our Diocesan Office for the Propagation of the Faith. The Earthquake in Haiti calls for a response from the world community to assist those who are in the throws of disaster. We have been so faithful these last 20 years in assisting our sister-parish St. Gerard’s. How heartbreaking it is when we have worked together, supporting their efforts and in one day it all comes tumbling down. We will do what we can to help them rebuild. Your gifts these past two weekends to assist Haiti right now totals $4,355.00. This will be pooled with the donations from our other 94 parishes in our diocese.
Saturday September 11th was a beautiful day as we recalled the Twentieth Anniversary of the 9/11 attacks on our nation. It was also a beautiful day for our Annual Parish Yard Sale. It was great to see so many people gathered together making it all possible. What a great comradery among all those who worked for several weeks to separate and price all the items that many of you donated for the sale. We made $1800.00 in sales that day and will continue to sell other items online. The rest of the items will be given to St. Vincent De Paul and Salvation Army. Thank you to Pam Chaplin who organized the event and to all those who worked diligently to assist us in helping us meet our income goals for our fiscal year budget.
The words of Jesus in Luke 12:48 come to mind as the needs of so many are placed before us; “To those who have been given much, much is expected.“ We have certainly been blessed in so many ways. Living in a first world country we have been blessed with talents, wealth, knowledge, time, education and so much more. Jesus makes it clear that what we have been given is to be shared for the benefit of others. I thank you all for your willingness to be so generous in your sharing for the benefit of so many others.
