Can you even imagine what it is like to be homeless? Most of us can’t. The thought of living in a tent in the woods, sleeping in a bag or with blankets in some public doorway is difficult to fathom or imagine. Yet there are people in Milford and Hopedale that are in need of emergency shelter.
We have been asked to consider being an emergency shelter one night a week during the winter months when the temperature is below 32 degrees. Four Milford churches have agreed to be involved. They are looking for seven churches to take one evening a week to possibly welcome people out of the cold when the temperature plunges. To do so we need two people that would assist in overseeing the project and to work with parishioners that would be willing to assist on the night we open our doors to the homeless. Doors open at 7:00 P.M. and close at 7:00 A.M the next day. We will make a commitment as a parish to shelter the homeless when parishioners step forward to make it happen.
So, this is an invitation to those who would be willing to make this happen. I’d like all of us to take the time to pray about it. Are you called to be involved in such a project? I can give more details and will be happy to work with the two people who would be willing to oversee and work out the details of setting up our Catholic Community of Sacred Heart as an emergency shelter. Again, it is one night a week during the winter months when the temperature on that night goes below 32 degrees. Do we have the personnel to begin this ministry? That is where we need to start.
Providing emergency shelter is just one example of JustFaith. I am seeking 12 who would be willing to journey together beginning in January of 2020 to begin to be educated on the Catholic Social Justice teachings and assist our parish in deepening our commitment to live out the message of the gospel. Are you being called to be among the 12? For more details take a look at
