Dear Fellow Parishioners, I have heard it said that the older you get the quicker time flies. I cannot testify to that “fact.” This has been a long Lent for me and for many of us. We have been swept into the Agony in the Garden in advance of Holy Week. The rain and cold weather dampened our spirits and made our desert journey stretch us to the limit. Easter in March adds to the mix. The Liturgical Seasons reflect the seasons of our lives and as you know, we can enter into the desert, or the Agony in the Garden, betrayal, or celebrate the joy of the birth of Christ in our lives and the joy of the resurrection through the many personal events happening around us. We learn through the Church Seasons the rhythm and flow of our spiritual lives and how to bring meaning to the triumph and tragedy of the challenges we face. The Song from the musical Mame, “We need a little Christmas” has been an earworm for me. Only I have been thinking that “We need a lot of Easter!” Saint Teresa of Kolkata has said, “We should never let anything sadden us so much that we forget the joy of the Resurrection.” Knowing something in our mind and getting our heart to cooperate is always a challenge. Our homily theme this lent “He gets us!” is so appropriate, and I know that Jesus is walking with us through the events of our lives as individuals and as a community. He walks with us through our tragedies and our triumphs and listens as we share our story. We need to do the same for each other. Be sure to pay attention to the inner story and don’t try to run away from it. Christ has no other ears and hands and feet but ours. We make the journey together. So, as we begin the Easter Season, let us limp together from the desert into the light of Christ as we seek to understand the events that have unfolded. May we trust as Julian of Norwich reminds us, “All will be well, in all things, all will be well!” Happy Easter to all! Fr. Bill
