I sleep very well at night. Someone called me the energizer bunny recently and it is because I sleep very well. Often in checking up on parishioners before we reopened, I would be asked, “And, how are you?” Do you really want to know? Well, I thought I’d let you in!
My prayer life, and spiritual journal have never been better. I am listening to God more than ever because I have more time to listen. I can’t visit the hospital or assisted living facilities unless called in, not going out to eat, no more Zumba. Fortunately, I can still go hiking and being around nature brings me into the ever-present stillness of God. And so, if you are interested here’s how I am feeling: “I’m tired!” I’m tired of hearing:
That the US is the epicenter of the coronavirus; having 25% of the world’s Covid-19 deaths, hospitalizations, and cases when we are 4% of the world’s population.
That the US has the most testing per capita; we are not.
That the number of people without access to healthcare is growing exponentially during a pandemic.
That we normally spend $6m on the July 4th celebration in the nation’s capital, and there are people unable to pay their mortgage and rent.
That children separated from their parents at our southern boarder are unable to be reunited.
That racism is at an all-time high and there is no plan to address it and make appropriate changes.
I can go on, but my question is: Does anybody care? Does anybody see what I see? This week we want to celebrate our Independence and I am realizing we may as a nation have won our independent from God. Now more than ever we need to be one nation under God; depend upon God more than ever to assist us in getting out of the mess we have created. God Help us.
Yes, I sleep very well at night, because I am so tired! Thanks for asking. Thanks for listening.
