Dear Fellow Parishioners, Many of us remember the slogan by American Express: “Don’t leave home without it!” This came to mind Sunday when we needed assistance with a parishioner who passed out at Mass. There is so much valuable information we should have with us at a moment’s notice. I am as guilty as the next person in failing to carry important items with me. I often get into the car with Stashu, my dog and go hiking. I tell no one where I am going and forget to take an ID or even money with me. Of course, even Stashu is better prepared if an emergency happens. He has a chip, and his collar has a number to call if lost and a chip ID number. So, I am realizing that there are certain things I should not leave home without. Here is a list of things I have come up with that would help, as I age and continue to hike and go places and do things: • iPhone-and I learned there is an app called FIND MY it will help someone locate me IF I HAVE MY PHONE! • Driver’s license and ID card. • List of medications • Insurance card • Emergency contact – name and phone number Now I know many of us men have that information in our wallet, and women in their purse. I just need to be more mindful to take these items with me when I go out. In my wallet I have a card that says, “I am a Catholic, in case of an emergency please call a priest!” I wonder how many of us find that important? When I was newly ordained, I would never go by an accident with out stopping and identifying myself. Somewhere along the line I was informed that I should just “move along.” Times have certainly changed. In any case, as I age before your very eyes, I wish to thank you all for the lessons I learn as I continue to journey with you as a community of faith. We are all in this together. Fr. Bill
