I want to address a few items before Holy Week that have been brought to my attention. Three weeks ago, we sent out our Annual Parish Report. I hope you have had a chance to read through it about all the good things happening here through the pooling of time, talent and treasure as a Catholic Community. Any feedback regarding the report would be greatly appreciated, as it assists us in being true to our commitment of ownership, transparency, and accountability in all aspects of parish life.
I have heard indirectly from 4 people that they felt called out regarding their contributions. We indicated that there are over 200 families who have no record of contributing to our ordinary expenses. We do receive $200-$300 in “loose cash” each week; but because it is not attached to an envelope we do not know who to credit. There are many ways that you can contribute financially to the parish and get a tax credit for it. On-line giving is the easiest way; set it up once and it’s done. Or, we can send envelopes for you to use weekly, monthly or even annually. A third option is simply putting a check in the collection or in the mail. At tax time we will be happy to send you a statement of your contributions so that you can claim the deduction on your taxes.
Over the last month, I have been reaching out to those families that I haven’t seen for some time. I am hearing from some families with younger children that the reason they stay away is because they don’t want their children to be disruptive during Mass. As Jesus says in Matthew 19, “Let the little children come to me.” Mass should be a place where all the children of God feel welcome so here are my thoughts:
1. Please come… don't stay away!
2. Sit in the front pews so that your child can see what is happening around the altar. There are 2 “escape hatches” (side doors) in the front of the church!
3. Simply be respectful of the people around you and gently engage your child in the parts of the mass by participating and explaining.
4. If your child gets restless take them into the family room or even the day chapel. Don’t be afraid to move around.
5. Cherub’s corner is available at the 8:30 Mass for younger children. We would like to add it to the 10:30 Mass if we can get more leaders. (Talk to Tara if you are interested)
6. Don’t be afraid to go to Kids Chapel with your child.
Attending Mass as a family can be a challenge, but remember, God will bless those who bring his little ones to him. “For the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to such as these” (Matt 19:14).
