Imagine how lucky Moses was when God spoke to him through the burning bush. God said, “Come no nearer! Remove the sandals from your feet, for the place where you stand is holy ground.” (Exodus 3:5) Every time I hear this conversation, I get jealous! I wish God would speak to me that clearly.
Our Vision Team is praying together and listening to the direction the Holy Spirit has for our community. I am so pleased that all five of us are encouraging each other to prayerfully take the time to “Listen.” Making the inner journey from head to heart calls for a “listening heart.” But sometimes my head is so cluttered with all the happenings in the news; listening is made more difficult. It is a real challenge to listen when the seeds of fear are planted in the garden of faith. We all want to walk in faith and not live in fear. That is God’s will for all of us.
I remind myself, God speaks to us through scripture. God isn’t just speaking the Moses, he is speaking to us: The LORD said, “I have witnessed the affliction of my people and have heard their cry of complaint, so I know well what they are suffering. Therefore, I have come down to rescue them.” (Exodus 3:7)
In the parable of the Fig Tree that we hear this weekend (Luke13:1-9) I wonder if we have become the Fig Tree that produces no fruit? My prayer is that we allow God to fertilize us with the Word of God, so that we can again bear fruit. That we will welcome the stranger, feed the hungry, dispel fear and walk in faith.
Aside: Some have been asking what is happening in the parking lot. NextGrid is installing Solar panel carports - a project that we began six years ago. We will receive income from the rental of our space, and another added feature is that they will also resurface and reline our parking spaces. Also, to the right of the church where our peace pole is, work will be started on a memorial for Ben Kellogg. It will include a firepit that will be used each year for our Easter Vigil. Fr. Bill
