Children in grades 2-5 are invited to participate in this celebration during the 8:30 and 10:30 Mass (beginning the Sunday after Labor Day continuing until Memorial Day weekend) and the 9:30 Mass during the summer. After the opening prayer, the presider sends forth the children with the Liturgical Leader to celebrate Children’s Liturgy of the Word in the Deacon Joseph Manella Day Chapel.
The Liturgical Leader facilitates the celebration, which includes leading the children in a shared reflection on the readings, and returns with the children to the assembly for the Liturgy of the Eucharist.
Leaders are trained and after a period of ‘shadowing’ other leaders, are added to the schedule. Leaders are assigned about once per month. They prepare to lead Fishers and Finders using material provided by the parish. Fisher and Finder’s Leaders must be complete Safe Environment training and have a CORI check.
Why Be a Fisher and Finder Leader?
This is a great opportunity to share your faith with young children, to grow in your own understanding of and appreciation for the Word of God and the celebration of the Eucharist, and to enrich children’s experience of the celebration of the Mass—besides, the kids are great!
