The Community Engagement Ministry mobilizes our community to influence the world around us to become the place that God intended it to be. This ministry educates and trains the parish about local, national and world needs and coordinates direct service projects, both faith-based. Ways to get involved:
COAST (Community Outreach and Serving Teams)
Sacred Heart is currently establishing a network to facilitate community involvement among members at local churches and local community outlets. COAST will connect those that are seeking to help, to places where needs can be met. Ministers on this team will assist with connecting volunteers to service projects, match needs with provider’s ability and availability, facilitate event scheduling and manage logging of time and experiences.
If you enjoy a fun ministry and meeting new people, the Coffee And…Team might be a great fit. This team serves pastries, coffee and occasionally egg sandwiches on Sunday Mornings between masses and during the summer, after the 9:30am Mass. It is a great opportunity for parishioners to relax after mass and get to know each other.
Sacred Heart holds several annual events to build community, and open the doors of hospitality to non-parishioners. If you enjoy having fun and volunteer as part of a team, this ministry is for you.
This food pantry, which is located in Milford, serves area families who are in need. Non-perishable items are needed for the success of this mission and may be dropped off in collection boxes that are located at the entrances of the church.
Sacred Heart Parish supports the parish of St. Gerard in the Diocese of Les Cayes, Haiti through a variety of efforts. While much of the parish support takes the shape of financial gifts, volunteers are needed for many other tasks associated with this ministry.
Hospital Ministers of Care bring Communion to those who are patients at Milford Regional Hospital every Wednesday morning. Training is provided for this very important ministry.
Ministry of Care
Ministers of Care bring communion to those who are confined to their homes. They also spend time in prayer and fellowship with these parishioners. Ministers of Care foster a living link between the Body of Christ at Sacred Heart and parishioners who are unable to attend parish functions.
Ministry of Hope
Members of this ministry provide support to those who are grieving during the time immediately after the death of a loved one. Volunteers are needed to serve as acolytes and A/V ministers during the funeral and hosts/hostesses for the reception after the funeral service.
On the third Tuesday of each month, Sacred Heart parishioners prepare, deliver, and serve a dinner at the Mustard Seed. The Mustard Seed is a non-profit organization that serves the homeless and low income families and individuals in Worcester.
Stephen Ministry equips lay people to provide confidential one-to-one Christian care to people in our community who are experiencing difficulties in their lives. Stephen Ministers are ordinary parishioners who receive 50 hours of training in how to listen and provide emotional and spiritual care to those who are hurting. A Stephen Minister is assigned to meet with a care receiver for one hour per week for as long as needed and provides care, encouragement, support and prayer.
St. Vincent de Paul
St. Vincent de Paul serves the disadvantaged populations of the community. St. Vincent de Paul provides compassion and support to individuals in need. The Love Loaves collections are one way in which the parish supports this important ministry.
The Sacred Heart Thrift Shop receives donated clothing which are sold to the public. It is open from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. every Thursday and 9:00a.m. to 12:30 p.m. except in July and August, and all proceeds benefit the parish. Adult and teen volunteers are always needed.
